Bobby and Minal’s ultimate Prashad Lockdown Date Night
Add some Prashad magic to your Valentine’s Day!
Hi everyone! Bobby here. Valentine’s Day is on the way – usually a pretty busy time for us in the restaurant, with loads of couples booking in, and Minal working on developing a new Valentine’s special in the kitchen. But not this year.
It’s pretty sad that Valentine’s nights out at our favourite spots are another thing that Covid and lockdowns have taken away from us all. Not that we usually get a chance to go out on Valentine’s Day, or for our wedding anniversary the next day!
But it’s doubly sad because it just feels like ages since we’ve had a proper Prashad Valentine’s. Last year, when Covid was still just a threat looming over us, Valentine’s Day and the days around it were absolutely battered by Storm Ciara, so we were a little bit quieter than usual then too.
To be fair, though, I’m sure plenty of us would gladly pick battling through the rain to make it to a cosy restaurant over being stuck indoors once again. So I thought I’d share some ideas for bringing some of that Prashad cosiness to your homes on February the 14th.
Setting the Mood
Takeaway in front of the telly is one of life’s biggest pleasures, yes, but if Valentine’s day isn’t an excuse to set the table and plate up your Pethis, then I don’t know what is! Maybe some candles? Cloth napkins? Why not! Treat yourself!

And while we usually suggest craft beer and cocktails as a perfect Prashad accompaniment, Valentine’s has to mean wine, surely? For spicy, flavourful food like ours, you probably want to stick with a white over the more clichéd romantic red – a heavier red will smother the flavours, while a nice fresh, fruity and sweet white (maybe a Pinot or Riesling) will really pick out and compliment them.
As for music? You probably don’t want my advice there…
Picking The Food
What makes a romantic meal? Light bites you can eat without slopping it down yourself. Anything shareable, for sure. So Valentine’s may be the only time I wouldn’t recommend ordering a Masala Dosa the size of your arm and eating it all to yourself.
We can’t really do our Thalis for takeaway, but a range of our hot and cold starters make for a great mix of flavours, with plenty of opportunities to share tapas-style. Pick four or five hot starters to pair with one or two cold ones and I guarantee you’ll be comfortably full – but not too full for whatever you get up to after the meal.

And, of course, we couldn’t stop Minal from working on a Valentine’s special perfect for takeaways. This year she’s cooking up Shalgam Channa for the main course – turnip and black channa with Kasturi Methi, carraway seeds and garam massala. It’s vegan, gluten-free, nut-free and mustard-free!
And don’t forget our desserts, either – they’re not a part of our menu that we tend to show a lot of love to, but if we can’t do it on Valentine’s, then when can we? If you’ve never tried a Prashad dessert before, now’s the time.
If you’re not sure where to start, Minal’s Valentine’s dessert this year is Lal Halwa – cardamom infused sweet beet, served with nutmeg and raisin ice cream. It’s gluten, onion, garlic, nut and mustard-free, and it’s delicious.

Sound Good?
Make sure you get your Valentine’s orders in nice and early on the day. We’re expecting it to be busy, and we don’t want anyone’s plans to be ruined by a longer wait than you were hoping for.
The specials are available from the 12th to the 14th – and please note that we’re closed on the 15th for our anniversary!
Don’t forget that we offer delivery up to five miles away when you call us directly, as well as a bit further afield through Just Eat and Uber Eats. Perfect for if you have no plans to leave the house.
So Happy Valentine’s Day from the Prashad family to the curry lovers of the world. Make it a good one, even if you’re stuck at home.
