Today marks 34 years since Mum and Dad opened the doors to Prashad, but this year, we want to give you the gifts.
To celebrate, we’re launching something exciting: The Thali of Fortune. From now until 31 December, every table will receive a Thali of Fortune card with their bill, with prizes ranging from discounts to freebies to your meal on the house. And for one very lucky person, there’s a whole year of Prashad dining up for grabs. All you have to do is scratch to reveal the flavour of your fortune…
Why are we doing it? Well, after 34 years, we’ve got an awful lot to be thankful for, and we wanted to celebrate with the people who’ve helped make Prashad what it is today. And that’s all of you.
Here’s what you could win from the Thali of Fortune:
- A year of Prashad on us! Our grand prize winner will receive £100 a month to spend on dining with us throughout 2027 – that’s £1,200 worth of meals to look forward to. There’s one grand prize available, with odds of 1 in 2,000.
- Your meal is on the house. One in every 40 cards wins their meal for free. Just imagine: you’ve enjoyed a fantastic meal, you reach for your wallet, only to find out the bill is already taken care of. Winner winner.
- A treat for next time. You could win 25% off your next visit, or a free round of drinks or dessert to enjoy next time you dine.
So, whether you’re joining us for a favourite dish or you fancy trying something new, you’ll be leaving with a little extra reason to celebrate.
The cards were inspired by one of our best-selling dishes: the Maharani Thali, or ‘Royal Plate’ which features the chef’s pick of starters, curries, sides, accompaniments and a little something sweet. But don’t save dessert until last if you want to eat it the traditional Gujarati way…
The best mouthful is when you tear off some rotli, scoop up some shrikhand (a sweet, hung yoghurt) and then any of the curries… Trust me, it’s sublime. And fortune flavours the brave, as they say. Or at least, we do!
Fortune flavours the brave
It certainly took bravery (and a whole lot of flavour) to open a vegetarian deli back in the early 90s. The vegetarian food scene wasn’t quite as mainstream as it is today. But they believed in what Prashad could become from the very beginning. So they hung a “100% vegetarian” sign above the door and never looked back.
They worked tirelessly to build the business, and over the years, our little Gujarati deli grew into the restaurant you know and love. Minal and I took the reins in 2004, and we moved to our home in Drighlington in 2012. There have been plenty of milestones along the way; from earning our Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA Rosettes to our 15 minutes of fame more than a few times over on the telly.
We’ve always been proud of how far Prashad has come. We couldn’t do it without our incredible team, or without the guests who keep coming through our doors. Whether you’ve been visiting us since the deli days or have only recently discovered us, thank you. Hospitality has been hit hard, relentlessly, over the last few years. Your support means more than you might realise.
Another reason to celebrate
Our birthday celebrations come not long after a special moment for the whole Prashad team. We were delighted to receive the Culinary Excellence Award at the Indian Restaurant Summit and Honours 2026, held at The Edwardian Manchester.
It was particularly lovely to share the occasion with our daughter, Maitri, and our parents/in-laws, Kaushy and Mohan, the people who started it all.
Awards are a wonderful recognition of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, but the best part of running Prashad has always been getting to share our food with you. We’re lucky to do what we love, and we don’t take that for granted.

Thali of Fortune promotion terms and conditions:
• All cards have one guaranteed prize.
• The Thali of Fortune promotion runs from 14/10/2026until 31/12/2026 (the Promotional Period). Prizes can be claimed up to and including 31/12/2031, subject to availability
• Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers or on Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or *other holidays*
• Diners during the Promotional Period will receive one Thali of Fortune scratch card per table, along with their bill. A member of the team must be present when the card is scratched.
• Instant redemption prize: ‘You’re a winner, this meal is on the house’. This prize applies to the bill provided at the same time as the scratch card. The prize cannot be retained and used at a later date. If the prize is not redeemed on the bill that was provided alongside the winning ‘‘You’re a winner, this meal is on the house’ scratch card, the prize is forfeited.
• All prizes excluding the instant redemption prize (‘You’re a winner, this meal is on the house’) are for redemption at a later date and can not be applied to the outstanding bill (non-instant redemption prizes). For these non-instant redemption prizes, intention to redeem them must be declared at the time of booking or risk being invalid. Applicable to dining in only, not valid for takeaway. Any guest wishing to benefit from the prize must have ordered a minimum of one Main Dish from the menu per person (includes set menus). The physical card must be presented to redeem the prize.
• Scratch cards can only be redeemed once, and only one card per table may be redeemed. Multiple scratch cards cannot be used at the same time.
• In the event of a malfunctioning card, Prashad has the right to void the card, and this decision is final.
• Management has the right to refuse service or withdraw this offer at any time.
• Maximum of one prize per table.
• The entrants hereby agree and accept that the Promoter’s decision is final and may not be challenged in relation to any and all aspects of the
promotion. No correspondence shall be entered into.
• Prizes are as stated, and are non-transferable, non-refundable, non-exchangeable and cannot be exchanged for cash. The cards hold no cash value.
• All prizes are available to be won during the Promotion Period and are split in the following way:
⁃ A Year of Free Prashad – Winner receives £100 per month of Prashad credit, to be spent within that month, for each month of 2027. There is a 1 in 2,000 chance of winning
⁃ You’re a winner, this meal is on the house – Instant redemption prize, 1 in 40 chance of winning
⁃ 25% off your bill next time you dine, 498 in 2,000 chance of winning
⁃ A free round of desserts next time you dine, 725 in 2,000 chance of winning
⁃ A free round of drinks next time you dine, 725 in 2,000 chance of winning – drink options offered are at the discretion of the management
• Only original scratch cards are valid; no photocopies or imitations will be accepted. Misprinted, altered, defective, or incomplete tickets are completely void, and only the number of prizes stated above are available and valid.
• Entries that are damaged, defaced, altered, illegible or otherwise copied will not be accepted. Prashad is not responsible for lost, stolen or invalid scratch cards.
• Prize winners sharing a photo of their experience at Prashad on social media and tagging @Prashad_Veggie on Instagram or TikTok, or @PrashadRestaurant on Facebook, during the promotional period will be entered into a separate prize draw. One winner from all valid entries will be randomly selected to win a set of Prashad cookbooks and a pouch of Prashad Garam Masala after the promotional period has ended.
