Free chaat, anyone? When global superstar Zayn Malik gave us a shout-out not once, but twice, during his recent tour Q&A’s, we couldn’t believe our ears! It’s always a pleasure to cook for Zayn and his family, who have been long-time customers at Prashad. But this was just another sign that our chaat is seriously special, so we decided to celebrate by giving everyone a chance to taste the magic for themselves. Our famous samosa chaat became the talking point of two Q&A sessions hosted by Banquet Records in Kingston on Thursday, 20 May, when the Bradford-born singer was asked about his must-have Deliveroo order and what he misses most when away from the UK.

During the first exchange, when asked whether there was a particular dish or Deliveroo order he craved as soon as he arrived back in the UK, Zayn replied:
“So there’s this place in Leeds, it’s called Prashad.”
His answer prompted cheers from the audience before he smiled and added, “People seem to know it. And they do this amazing samosa chaat there, so I always get it.”
Later in the evening, when asked what the best thing about being home was, he mentioned his mum’s cooking before he once again singled out the restaurant, saying:
“Prashad. I get samosa chaat from there every time I’m back, so yeah, that’s the one!”

When we shared the exchange on social media, with footage kindly supplied by fan Danielle McMinn, you lot loved it! It’s already been watched more than half a million times, and the comments were full love for our chaat. Many of you called the dish “the best chaat EVER”, and someone even described our menu as the best Indian food they’d ever had, from anywhere!
With so many cheers of support, we’ve decided to give away 1,000 complimentary portions of our signature chaat to celebrate. If you book a table at the restaurant or order takeaway direct from us between now and the end of July, you simply need to ask for “Zayn’s favourite” to receive the dish free of charge, while stocks last.
So what is Zayn Malik’s favourite dish?
Samosa chaat is a vibrant Indian street food dish that combines smashed, hot samosas with chickpeas, potatoes, yoghurt, chilli, and tangy tamarind dressing, creating what Minal calls a medley of textures, where sweet meets tangy in a way you just can’t get enough of.
For me (Bobby 👋🏽), it’s the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It has always been our most popular dish, and clearly, Zayn has great taste. Once you try it, you just get it. And we want to share that experience with as many people as possible. And what’s better than chaat? Free chaat!

Originally opened as a deli in 1992 by my parents, Prashad is very much still a family business. Minal is in the kitchen from Tuesday to Sunday, and you might spot our daughter Maitri in there too, learning from the best. Chaat has always been a Prashad favourite since it was added to the menu, and for good reason.
